It is not the type, it is the shape of clothing that labels them as male or female. Together with the personality who wears them. Considering this, things like skirts, dresses, sarouels and tights are just another ordinary kind of male clothing for me. And 'ballet flats'. I like this kind of comfortable unisex shoes. Unisex? .... ! Do not forget that, in earlier times they were only worn by men... These canvas ones, created by the spanish brand Andres Machado are amazingly well designed and fit really like a second skin.

Shoes, inspired by early men shoes. These excellent shoes are designed and made by Gert Buurman (Gelderse Roos), the Netherlands. To wear them, the lower part of the extremely extended back part must be secured by wrapping a ribbon, a long piece of rough fabric, a shoestring or something else around the ankle.

Nearly the whole length of the legs is visible, but coloured bright grey by cotton tights; flat Moroccan babouche shoes which cover only the lower part of the feet.

High waisted sarouel pants. A textile artwork by Vaisto, Finland. Hanni about her and Koshka's work: We work as a team, but mainly Koshka is responsible for design & production, and I'm doing selling, marketing and generally run the business. Of course we love to hit our creative heads together and see the multicolors sparks fly out, often Koshka makes the original sketches, and then we together decide the colors, materials and details. For this project it was very inspiring to see the blog, study this very unique style and beautiful sense of aesthetic, and try to think how to make it work together with ours. We were truly pleased with the result, it was very exciting to give imagination big wide wings, and create something out of our usual range.

Voor een verhaal is niet veel meer nodig dan dit (For a good story not much more is needed than this) Originally, I made the cartoon pen-drawing to which this text belongs, in 2008. The print version was created in august 2009, and it is this version which inspired Manochic (Tokio, Japan / Hanoi, Vietnam) for the decoration in colorful embroidery work on the front of a sarouel. The fingerless gloves in bright blue linen are created by myself.

Extremely wide and short balloon skirt with giant decorative bow. An amazing work by AnnySchoo (US), inspired by examples of formal European male clothing dating back to the 16th and 17th century.

AnnySchoo about her work: The hardest part of making this skirt was calculating the pleats. They could only be hand sewn to stitch such thickness of pleated fabric with stiff belt on. The huge bow gives the skirt a very extraordinary look.

Wrap pants

Lucia Squillari about her work: I invented these pants to create a manly skirt. Paul liked a long black wrap skirt I had made, so I thought I'd make "wrap pants", based on the same principle. In fact they work and look like two wrap skirts, attached together in the middle, one wrapping each leg. A sash is attached to the front, and one to the back, with long ties protruding. To wear the pants the sahshes protruding from the left side should be crossed and tied on the right side, and vice versa.

Something in between an artwork, two cartoons and a pair of shoes. But surprinsingly wearable. The texts are written in brown colour pencil on the lightweight red cedar wooden platform soles. On the the right shoe sole Look! Wooden shoes from Holland, the left one Het blok aan het been (typical Dutch proverb).
